Ian Mcmanus Watercolour 2024
Ian had us choose a photo and then walked us through painting it.
He had us start by breaking the photo down intop 3 main areas, a) sky, b) hills and boats, c) the water with the dinggy in the front. We then started drawing the boats with reflections etc in those areas. This make it a lot faster on sizing things as they now had a area to fill.
We then painted the sky and hills a weak neutral tint. We then added a little yellow to the neutral tint to do the hills in the back ground so that they stayed back there and not green as in the photo. Then using the paint from the sky but watered down we did the water.
It was only then that we started to paint the boats.
The water at the front was given a light wash of ultramarine. We finished by doing masts, grigging, ropes and adding two people onto one of the boats.
Great workshop and we lernt a lot.
